Q: Mormon beliefs?
I was wondering what the mormon beliefs are concerning relationships before marriage. The guy is mormon and the girl is catholic if that matters.
What is the view on pre-maritial sex?
View on kissing?
View on oral sex?
View on using hands?
View on "feeling" each other?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks
A: I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints (mormon) and I think this will help you clear up your confusion.
Like most Christians we believe that sex is reserved for marriage. No pre-marital sex.
The view on kissing from "For the Strength of Youth" pamphlet is that we should avoid "heavy kissing" before marriage, this is because it ignites sexual desires.
Oral sex is also something to refrain from before marriage, because it involves sexual stimulation with someone who isn't your wife or husband. "For the strength of youth" stresses wholesome activities when dating and avoiding stimulating sexual desires of another person with whom you are not married.
That includes, using of hands and feeling each other.
In "mormon" or Latter day saint belief, Marriage is instituted by God, and Sex is one of the most powerful ways a man or woman can express his or her love to their spouse. Sexual desire and sex when kept within the bonds of marriage is kept Special and sacred because it become exclusive to the couple. In my opinion and I believe it keeps with the church's teachings when people engage in pre-marital sex or stimulation of sexual desires it cheapens the meaning of sexual relations.
Q: What are the main beliefs of a Mormon?
Just wondering. Im not asking for a whole bookful of stuff.
But what are the main beliefs of a Mormon? Like the most important ones or something. Or just any at all.
A: We believe in the following. This is a synopsis of our beliefs.
1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
3. We believe that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul--We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
Q: What's the difference between Mormon beliefs and the beliefs of the average Christian?
...Any huge differences? I know Mormons have temples, that's a big one, but what else? Let's not be hurtful here, give fact, not opinion please.
A: You asked for fact and kind words . . . hmmm, have you gotten that from the previous responders? Nope, opinions and ignorance/misinformation are abound tonight!
As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), we believe in God, the Eternal Father, in His son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. These are three separate beings in the Godhead, which each have an individual role, but they all work for the purpose to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Here is in a nushell what we believe, and I am sure that you will find it quite a bit less sensationalistic than others would like you to believe!

Q: Is this true of the Mormon beliefs?
is this truly what the Mormons believe?
In the Mormon church we believe that Eve's decision was the best one she could have made so that humanity could come into existence. we hold Eve in high regard. God told them that if they ate the fruit that they would die. Its like a man to take everything so literally. I'm sure that Eve with her woman's intuition knew that they would have a full and satisfying life.
That was a previous answer in a post from a Mormon.
A: To put it simply: we don't revere her as much as we don't despise her.
A quote from a book I am reading right now on the subject:
"A strange notion seems to prevail in much of the... Christian world, that the plan of the Father were frustrated by Satan in the temptation of Adam which brought to pass the fall of man. Ministers have written and spoken a great deal about the awful sin of the fall, and how this world would have continued on, peopled with myriads of inhabitants living in continual peace and happiness, if Adam had not transgressed.
A belief of this kind seems very strange... for the Scriptures declare that the Father knew the end from the beginning:
'Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and none else: I am God, and there is none like me.
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure'
Isaiah 46:9-10'"
Like other Christian groups, Latter-day saints (aka Mormons) do not accept the idea of a fallible God; a God that makes mistakes in the design of Earth and mankind. He had to know knew Eve would disobey, and Eve's disobedience was required for the propogation of man. Otherwise, you and I wouldn't exist today.
Q: What are some funny misconceptions of the Mormon beliefs?
I heard some weird stuff, like allowing sisters marrying brothers
I just need a list, thanks
I just want to know for future reference
A: Some of the weirdest ones i've heard is that...
Mormon's have horns are their heads
Mormons descended from reptile creatures that came from Mars.
Other than that, the other misconceptions really aren't that stange, they only come from people who don't understand the church (especially ex members who really didn't understand the doctrine)
Q: What is the strangest jettisoned Mormon belief?
The Mormon church provides some humorous beliefs, many of which are truly inspired...what is the weirdest one they once held, but now have quietly abandoned?
A: Well so far, not one single answer on here is correct. The inly belief that is now not practiced, nor has it been practiced or condoned for over a hundred years is polygomy.
Check the source for facts - you will only receive false statements on yahoo answers.
Q: What are some "unique" Mormon beliefs?
I have heard that Mormons don't tell you all of their beliefs at first, so you don't immediately dismiss their religion. I do not know whether that is true or not, but it certainly makes sense.
Note: If you are to give a Mormon belief, please back it up with a Book of Mormon or biblical source, please!
Some examples would be:
- If you die a good person, you might be able to get your own planet to rule as god of
- Jesus and Lucifer are brothers
- God has a wife
PS - I know these beliefs to be true, but I don't know where the Book of Mormon actually says this, so if you know, please help me out.
I am just interested in the beliefs of religions; this is not to be a "let's flame the Mormons" discussion.
Thank you,
Derek
A: I love it how people list answers about a faith they know nothing about. I'm sorry you have been given so many incorrect assumptions about our faith. I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I, myself have asked millions of questions and have found happiness in this church. To answer a few of the questions you brought up....
1. Jesus & Lucifer are brothers: We believe that we are all spiritual children of our Heavenly Father.
2. Own our own planet: not exactly..... we believe that God is our father. He wants us to have what he has, as any parent would want the most for their children here on earth. See the bible: Romans. 8: 17
17 And if children, then heirs; aheirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we bsuffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
For all questions concerning our faith, go to the source. Asking random people will only give you false answers and assumptions. You wouldn't go to a Ford dealer asking about Chevy's right? :)
You can find any answer to your questions at www.lds.org
The only way to truly understand our faith and to know its truthfullness is to read the Book of Mormon and pray about what you have read. The Book of Mormon and the Bible go hand in hand and you will find footnotes listing references to each at the bottom of page.
Click on basic beliefs -- that is a great link to answer a lot of questions. I hope this helps!
Have a great day
Q: Do Mormon beliefs (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) contradict what the Bibl says??
I am not a Mormon, but my best friend is. A friend of mine told me that Mormon beliefs contradict what the Bible says. What are some Bible verses that show that Mormon beliefs are false?
A: None that I know of. Oh wait. Yes. We our beliefs contradict TAINTMPERED bibles, or the ones that some people have modified so it says what they want it to say.
I can't recall anything that contradicts the bible, but I might be forgetting something.
Check out mormon.org, or lds.org. It will probably say.
DON'T LISTEN TO NONMEMBERS OF THE LDS RELIGION. THEY TELL LIES ABOUT IT OR GARBLED VERSION.
Q: Quick Mormon Beliefs?
So I have a good friend and he's Mormon. Are there some general rules that he has to follow? His mother won't let him use his cell phone on Sunday. Does that have anything to do with their religion? They aren't very orthodox, but I would just like to know a bit more about the religion so I don't feel so ignorant of his beliefs. Thanks.
A: 1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.

If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
this is really the main part of our beliefs....and no, to answer your question.... it has nothing to do with our religion... its just his mom... haha
Q: What are the Mormon beliefs?
I'm interested in hearing from someone who actually knows what they're talking about, not from people who want to bash on someone's religion, please. What is included in the Mormon belief structure? I've heard so many random things that I don't know what's true and what's not. How do the beliefs affect daily life, what is the history of this faith, etc.?
A: In the final analysis, I have found the non-Christian religions, such as Mormonism, to be philosophically indefensible, being internally incoherent or undermining human reason and experience.
If you are confident enough in your own beliefs, then you will have no problem with reading some other analyses of your faith, such as the items shown below.
Mormonism Summary:
http://www.carm.org/lds/nutshell.htm
Is Mormonism Christian?
Mormons deny the following statement: There is ONE God who eternally exists in three different persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, all of whom are fully God, all of whom are equal. That denial alone is enough to assert that Mormons are not Christians. There are many more Mormon doctrines that are contrary to Christian beliefs, e.g., that we existed as spirit beings before we were born on this earth or that God’s final revelation given to the forty authors of the bible is incomplete and needed Joseph Smith’s Book of Mormon. Either a few million Mormons are Christians and the billion plus Christians are not, or Mormonism is a heretical system of beliefs. See: http://www.irr.org/mit/Is-Mormonism-Christian.html
No single orthodox Christian denomination recognizes Mormonism as a Christian belief system.

There are many members of heretical religious groups that have staked their eternal souls on their beliefs without searching the scriptures and reviewing the doctrinal writings of church leaders to satisfy themselves that what they have been told is sufficiently rational and worth believing. Don’t let yourself be one of these persons. Mormons must ask their stake and ward leadership about the things that they have read above. Observe if these leaders are willing to enter into an honest and frank discussion about these matters versus telling them to avoid readings outside of your own faith. If they do the latter, such a dismissal of honest inquiry should be an alarm bell.

Q: Mormon Beliefs: Timing of Jesus in New World?
According to Mormon beliefs, exactly when did Jesus visit the New World (now the Americas)? Was it between crucifixion and resurrection, immediately after resurrection, ten years after resurrection, or 500 years ago? Just curious.
A: It was after the resurrection. There was the sign of His death, which was 3 days of darkness and natural calamities, then after that he came to them. It was after He left His apostles in Jerusalem and went back into Heaven, He went to America.
Q: Should marriage be the way of the mormon beliefs?
In the old testament is speaks of wives. a man who takes on wives. So should it be allowed to have a marriage with many wives since in the bible it says wives? And since the 1st and 14 amendment is a protection for us to have these rights?
just asking looking to see what answers i get not based on own beliefs
A: Mormons do NOT practice ploygamy, and have not for over 150 years. In 1998, President Gordon B. Hinckley made the following statement about the Church's position on plural marriage:
"This Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. . . . If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church."
At various times, the Lord has commanded His people to practice plural marriage. For example, He gave this command to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and Solomon (Doctrine and Covenants 132:1).
In this dispensation, the Lord commanded some of the early Saints to practice plural marriage. The Prophet Joseph Smith and those closest to him, including Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball, were challenged by this command, but they obeyed it. In 1890, President Wilford Woodruff received a revelation that the leaders of the Church should cease teaching the practice of plural marriage.
Q: Mormon beliefs vs Christian beleifs?
I want to know why Mormon’s now consider themselves to be Christian.
Below I will include Mormon beliefs vs. Christian beliefs (straight from the Book of Mormon and the Bible).
After reading the comparisons, do you believe Mormon’s are Christians?
Do the comparisons “look like a duck and sound like a duck”? Or are they totally different?
*I am in no way Mormon “bashing”, I seriously want to know why Mormons consider themselves to be Christian.*
Mormon Belief: Like Joseph Smith, witnesses in the Mormon scriptures claim to have seen God and Christ as two separate beings: "But he . . . looked up steadfastly unto heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God."
Christian Belief: True Christians know that God and Christ are one (John 10:30), namely one spiritual, indivisible Being of one substance without a visible body and certainly without a "right hand." And no man can see God (John 6:46), so the Mormon scripture is clearly false.
Mormon Belief: In the Mormon scriptures, Jesus says "My Father is greater than I."
Christian Belief: Christians believe that the Father and the Son are one Being and are absolutely co-equal.
Mormon Belief: The Jesus of the Mormons scriptures "learned obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him."
Christian Belief: Christians understand that Christ did not need to progress or learn or be made perfect, but was complete and perfect eternally. And true Christians know that salvation, of course, is not a function of obedience.
Mormon Belief: The Mormon scriptures say God "hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, . . . that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature." Also "now are we the sons of God, and . . . when he shall appear, we shall be like him."
Christian Belief: Christians are appalled at this blasphemy. God and Christ are infinitely different than us and we cannot become "like them" in the least degree.
Mormon Belief: The Mormon scriptures proclaim this heresy: "By works a man is justified, and not by faith only."
Christian Belief: Christians believe that they are saved by faith alone, by faith only, and that our works play no role in our justification through grace.

Imma eat chu: Yes, it is about accepting Jesus. However if you would read the comparisons, the Jesus that the Mormons teach is different from the Christian Jesus.
A: LOL! Reptilia, I don't know what your angle is, but I must say, this is a very very clever question. I am impressed (assuming you did it on purpose, which seems to be the case).
You quote from the "Mormon scriptures" and then compare to Christian beliefs. The problem is...every "Mormon scripture" you quote IS FROM THE BIBLE ITSELF!! And no one has noticed! The Christians are saying, "Yeah, those Mormon are not in line with the Bible", not realizing that all these Mormon beliefs are direct quotes from the BIBLE. How funny is this.
Here's what I mean:
Mormon Belief: Like Joseph Smith, witnesses in the Mormon scriptures claim to have seen God and Christ as two separate beings: "But he . . . looked up steadfastly unto heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God."
[Not in line with the Bible? This is quoted word for word from Acts 7:55-56.]
Mormon Belief: In the Mormon scriptures, Jesus says "My Father is greater than I."
[Word for word from John 14:28]
Mormon Belief: The Jesus of the Mormons scriptures "learned obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him."
[Word for word from Hebrews 5:8-9]
Mormon Belief: The Mormon scriptures say God "hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, . . . that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature." Also "now are we the sons of God, and . . . when he shall appear, we shall be like him."
[word for word from 2 Peter 1:4, and 1 John 3:2]
Mormon Belief: The Mormon scriptures proclaim this heresy: "By works a man is justified, and not by faith only."
[Word for word from James 2:24...oh, the heresy!]
Lol. And what's great is you aren't lying...those quotes ARE from Mormon scriptures, i.e., the BIBLE.
P.S. - Citing Leviticus 11:19 was a nice touch. :-)
