Q: Mormonism?
I am a Christian i was just wondering what Mormonism teachings and beliefs are could you please help me?
A: We all need to be a lot more aware on how dangerous the Mormon teachings are. We are surprised in one sense that anyone would even believe in these doctrines. Although we have not gone into the weaknesses of the founder Joseph Smith's life, let it be said that he was charged by the law on speculation. His teachings are totally opposed to the Christian scriptures and that anyone who affirms Christ Jesus must deny Mormonism in its entirety. When Mormonism's mask is stripped away, we see something more akin to the eastern religions. This material is heavily documented and encourages you to explore further as necessary. sorry can't help you.
Q: Do you know the difference between Christianity and Mormonism?
I've heard some call Mormonism a cult and others say they worship Satan. I want to know what the religion is really about. I've tried reading some about it but I don't see why it's called a cult and the other stuff.
A: yes I do
.
Q: Is Mormonism the right way to go for me?
I have had a feeling that Mormonism is the way that I need to go. I have had the feeling for quite some time now, but I'm not completely sure. The Latter Day Saints just feels right to me, but I'm not sure if I should join the church. What should I do to try to resolve this problem?
A: No. If you study mormonism, or any other christian religion, you'll find it's all just made-up nonsense.
Q: Is there an ecumenical movement within Mormonism?
Apparently there are quite a few branches of Mormonism (with the LDS being by far the largest).
Are there any movements to try to reunify these disparate groups (like we see with ecumenism within Christianity)?
Do any of the Latter Day churches send out missionaries to other Latter Day communities?
A: I know of no present effort by the LDS church to target Mormon splinter groups for proselyting. If there are any that want to join the LDS church, all they have to do is repent and be baptized, and they will be welcomed into fellowship.
Q: Do you think that Romney will use his Mormonism to ban abortion in America?
Many people are afraid that he will use his Mormonism to ban a woman's right to terminate her children! Is this a concern for us?
A: The president can't "ban" anything. He does not make laws, only signs bills passed by Congress into laws.
The landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision acknowledges a Constitutional right to abortion which means neither Romney nor Congress can do anything about it.
However, just last term the Supreme Court upheld a federal law banning partial-birth abortion in some instances.
What would have to happen for Romney to affect abortion policy is replace a current liberal Supreme Court justice with one who will vote to reverse Roe v. Wade when such a justice retires.
John Paul Stevens is currently 86-years-old and a major Roe supporter. Should he retire if and when Romney becomes president, another justice could take his place and vote with Roberts, Scalia, Thomas and Alito to overturn Roe v. Wade which would then allow the states to pass its own abortion regulations and/or restrictions.
Q: What causes me to say bad things about Mormonism?
I don't have friends and have been up to my shenanigans posting rude things about Latter Day Saints and their Prophets. What causes me to say bad things about Mormonism? Is it the summer loneliness, could it be jealousy of their happiness, can it be the feeling of lack of success, or a combination of any of these?
Is there a cure for the old proverbial summer boredom, the longing for a woman, and the eagerness to achieve ones goals. This terror of a psychosis has possessed me like the devil himself making me to slander Mitt Romney and negatively present the LDS church on yahoo answers. No, I can't leave it be. It's left me with great remorse.
A: Your narrow mind and your mouth, and no, I am not a mormon, or even a moron.
Q: Why is Mormonism the fastest growing group in Christianity?
Someone told me that Mormons are the fastest growing group in Christianity, not only in the US but around the world. Is it because their beliefs are more attractive than what (for instance) Southern Baptists believe?
A: It is, for a fact, based on census records, the fastest growing Christian denomination in the US. We really don't know about the whole world because many countries don't record religious preferences with their census taking.
The main reason why it is growing so much, while other Christian denominations are losing ground, is because every Mormon male is required to do two years of missionary work and Mormon missionaries are everywhere. I see them here in LA all the time. They work in pairs and go from neighborhood to neighborhood and they are attracting a lot of the Latino population to their beliefs.
As to the person who said they aren't Christians, that's simply not true and they should actually learn for themselves instead of hearing false information and passing it along.
(I'm not a Mormon and could never be one because I can't buy into the whole 'lost books of the bible written on gold tablets, America is the true chosen land' thing. I'm just a simple, but honest, Unitarian.)
Q: Is Mormonism a denomination of Christianity or is it a religion that is completely separate from it?
If it's not a Christian faith at all, is it considered to be an "Abrahamic" religion? A fourth "Abrahamic" religion?
A: Mormons believe in Jesus as a personal savior. That makes them Christian whether other Christians like it or not.
Q: Is it true that Mormon's have built classrooms to teach Mormonism next to public schools?
and the kids go to them during regular school hours?
Doesn't that defy separation of church and state even if it is voluntary?
A: Like it's been said, it's just like work release. It's off school property, is not related to school at all and kids are neither forced nor disallowed from taking it.
And it's only high school kids who take seminary.
When my kids are old enough, I will probably make them take it as a zero period (meaning before school) so that they can take all the extracurriculars they want to in high school. I went to seminary before school at 6am because where I lived didn't have time release.
EDIT: For those of you saying it violates separation of church and state what is your grounds for this? How exactly does it violate separation of church and state?
BTW, the ACLU disagrees with you. It does not find the LDS church to be in violation of separation of church and state. http://www.acluutah.org/seminary.htm

Q: What are the doctrinal differences between Pentacostal and Mormonism?
Not your prejudices please.
A: so much for "not your prejudices please"! geez. no one here knows anything about mormons- except the mormons! i think we are pretty similar, except pentacostal might be a little more strict in their beliefs- like we don't do rated "R", they don't do T.V. we where shorts to our knees and sleeves just past our shoulders, they wear them a little longer. my mom is mormon and one of her best friends is pentacostal- they both believe in God, Jesus and the holy ghost. they both read the old and new testament in the bible. mormons do have another testament of jesus christ in the book or mormon, but that is a seperate book, not above the bible, but next to it. that's probably the main difference
Q: how does the Church of Mormonism accomodate deviance among its ranks?
I am writing a paper on "Under the Banner of Heaven : a story of violent faith" and can't seem to answer this question.
A: I'm a mormon... I'll answer your question as fully as I can.
Short answer - they don't. They don't accomodate deviance at all --- in fact a lot of people criticize the church for this. Members who decide to willingly and unrepentently violate core tenets of the church are excommunicated.
As I'm sure the book explains (I haven't read it), the subjects of the book were of a fundamentalist group that broke away from the mormon church over 100 years ago and have since practiced a very different sort of religion, much like extremist groups that break away from other religions and embrace very different teachings.
The mormon church (or Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today) which counts around 11 million members, is very unified and careful to ensure that virtually identical teachings are being delivered around the world. This helps to make sure that extremists like those in the book are not accommodated by the church.
It's unfortunate for us members that we are often associated with these other groups, when, in actuality, we are much more like everyone else than we are like those in these extremist groups.
Q: Why do other christian denominations call mormonism a cult?
What do mormons believe that would lead other christians to call them a cult. Is it just religious bigotry or something more?
A: They do it because they feel threatened.
P.S. I wonder if Chris shows such unabashed hatred for people in the real world.. :]
Q: Why did Mormonism have such a massive following at the time it was created?
It was created during the Second Great Awakening, and had massive followings then. Why is that so?
A: when the spirit touches you you know its true. it still does have a massive following and will continue to increase.
Q: Questions for people that have converted to mormonism?
What do you guys think and feel about the decision you've made and what encouraged you to the decision? I am considering it and I was just curious, also as a way of assuring my choice. Please and thank you!
A: "The plan of salvation the LDS church teaches is wonderful to me. The Book of Mormon helped me to believe in it as well as the church in general. I am thrilled to know that this church has God's authorized priesthood. I joined 10 years ago and am very glad I did. It has brought much peace and happiness into my life"
The above is a quote from my wife who I married 2 years ago. As for me, I have been a member since youth but fell away as an adult. Later, with maturity, I returned to it. I cannot express enough the satisfaction I feel in making that choice. I have read everything about the church I could get my hands on these last few years, including the Book of Mormon, which I have read several times. I have no doubt that this gospel is true. It brings me much happiness and I can't imagine life now without it. And, in addition, it gives me great happiness to know I can be sealed to my wife and our children for eternity. My wife and I will soon be sealed for eternity in the temple.
To Jeff-a Follower below:
Ed Decker's "The God Makers" is a very dishonest mischaracterization of Mormonism. It brings disrepute to a so-called Christian bookstore that would sell it. If one should waste their time in reading it, they should also reference a book entitled "The Truth About The God Makers" by Gilbert W. Scharffs
Q: Do you believe that Romney can win in the general election or is his Mormonism to big an obstacle?
Many seem to think so and Hillary will certainly exploit that.
A: I don't think that Romney's Mormonism should play any part in a persons decision to vote or not vote for him. If I would have been old enough I would have voted for JFK. There were many people concerned about his Catholicism. Would the pope be running America? and things like that. I had hoped that we had learned from that experience. Apparently not. That is too bad.
