Q: What is Roman Catholic High School for boys mascot?
Philadelphia, Pa
A: I know where I live eagles are a very popular mascot for Catholic schools.
Q: Publically funded Roman Catholic school (elementary and high school) in Ontario. Anywhere else?
Where do you live that has state-funded, public Roman Catholic education (or other religious education)? It exists in Ontario, Canada, under the "Separate School Board" which I think is a great thing. All other religions are grouped under the "Public" school board, and are publically funded as well. There are two school boards in Ontario, therefore.
Where else? Curious, thanks!
A: Practically every Catholic school in Canada is funded by the state. Unfortunately, this puts requirements on what they teach (health class, etc...)
In the US, Catholic schools are generally privately funded, which means they tend to be more faithful. Catholic schools vary as far as how "Catholic" they are. It depends mostly on what the board decides.
Q: Will UW-Madison take a look at what high school I went to?
I attend a very hard roman catholic high school (which has a very high academic reputation). I have a 2.9 gpa and live in wisconsin. Many of my friends, who attend public schools, have much higher gpa's. When I entered this school as a freshmen I had a very high gpa and could've gone to a public school and gotten a higher gpa. Would a school like madison factor in the academic reputation of my school vs. others. And if not, tell me other things that are important for getting into madison. please and thank u
ps. I will be a junior and I have had a substantial increase in gpa every semester
A: Pinky,
This is the thing. Any college you apply to, they will look at what high school you went to. If your particular high school is famous for it's high academic reputation then I guess the colleges in WI are also aware of your school's reputation, and in that case your gpa should not be the ultimate deciding factor.
Q: Do colleges look at how hard your high school was?
I go to a very hard roman catholic preparatory school for boys and I am just trying to get by with 3.0. As I hear from friends from other high schools they tell me that there life is a breeze and they have a very high gpa. When I entered this high school I had a very high gpa also and I could've gone to a much easier high and get a higher gpa. Will colleges take look at the academic difference between different schools, especially local colleges.
A: Your high school probably has a reputation. They take in account of things like the class size, the class average gpa. I mean pretty much they look at how you are in comparison to your high school not how hard the high school is. But I do know that most colleges are aware of private schools and the usual gpa's and class ranks from those schools that get in. They should also see you went to another high school and factor in transfer differences. In my case I got screwed because I changed states and lost class credits.... but if they are in the same state you should be fine!
Q: How do you transfer from a community college to Georgetown School of Foreign Service?
I am a 3.9 college GPA at a top-ranked community college in California.
I work with International Students.
Studied abroad in Vietnam for a month.
Have the support of the Vice-president of my college.
Practicing Roman Catholic who attended Jesuit high school and Catholic education my whole life.
Been on many mission trips to Mexico to build houses and help with Franciscan monks.
My goal is to get a degree in International Politics with an emphasis in either Latin American countries or Southeast Asian countries.
Ideally I would love to work for the UN or the State Department.
Please let me know if I am on the right track.
Thank You!
A: You need to contact the Registar's office at Georgetown for a definitive answer on this. Yahoo Answers is NOT the place to ask this very important question if you want a real answer.
I wish you luck. The State Dept. has it's faults, but it's better than most Government Agencies and you can have an entire career with them, see a lot of places and make some pretty good money in the process.
Q: Why is there Greek in the Roman Catholic Latin Mass.?
You're cruising along in the Latin Mass and all of a sudden "Kyrie Elieson" pops up (which I take to be Greek). I have't been to Mass in 30 years since I left Catholic high school, but these are the kind of questions that pop into my mind when I am out walking.
Peter
A: Ignore those first two responses. They are expressing a common misunderstanding. In truth, there is no K nor Y in Latin. You were correct to note these are Greek phrases
Tradition is the source of these phrases. The new testament is in Greek, and the common language in the early church was Greek. It likely sprang from those early versions of the mass. Note that it is only 3 words: Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, Kyrie eleison. (Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.) Not too hard to remember what they mean since they're so few, n'est pas?
Q: freshmen going into NEW high school.?
hi =D
okay well right now i am in a small private school with about 60 kids per grade. i will eventually be going to a public high school when i finish the 8th grade. I AM FREAKING OUT. I don't know one person!ONE PERSON! except my brother. He will be a sophomore when im a freshmen. but most likely, and will not be any help. he seems to like high school and he has friends but he never invites them over. so im worried i will have a hard time making friends. after all girls are more picky-ier at making friends, but i'm pretty outgoing.
im scared! will i make friends?
& a few more questions
- is it hard adjusting to a huge public high school when you came from a small Roman Catholic private school?
- Do they carry backpacks in high school(the girls) or totes? & where do they get them from!? gothic stores?preppy stores?
-how do i get to know people? i know talk and smile & stuff but got any conversation starters?
- what sports do you recommend i do?
i hate running so no track.
i love to dance/ so maybe like cheerleading?
but are they all drama queens?
-volleyball? have been doing it for 2 years but suck at serving..
no soccer or basketball please :)
- also i am dreading, absolutely DREADING lunch period..
who the heck do i sit by!
if i just randomly come up to a group of girls and sit down, i will look like a nerd, i know it!
UGH! i know I'm over- reacting but just answer the questions please..
*BEST ANSWER 10 POINTS*
A: hahaha (:
im going into freshman and im in a catholic school which holds 35 students per grade
so im sure you'll be fine because i stopped worrying about that a long time ago.
just think about it there are gonna be a bunch of other freshmans who are brand new just like you, who are probably dreading the same thing your dreading
you can easily fit into a group with your own personality so dont just change yourself to try to not look like a loser because in the end you probably will be one
im going into a huge public high school to
i would ask your brother to help you as much as you can
because you will be in a different environment from what you are now
academics will not be a problem because you are in a private school
of course youll have backpacks to carry
it doesnt matter where you buy your backpacks unless there have some kind of regulation at your school
whatever you like best, i dont think people will be looking at your backpack as much as you think
well you choose the people for who you want to talk to
so just introduce yourself since you are a freshman and im pretty sure the person you are talking to is new to this to
just ask what school did they go to before?
do they know anyone who goes to your school...
compliment what they're wearing so you can start topics of what clothes they usually wear, wear do you get that, etc.
best time to talk to someone new is bumping them in to the same class as yours or if you have a partner introduce yourself
wow i think we are really similar becauseeee i LOVE to dance and play volleyball
i wouldnt suggest chearleading because its definitely different from dancing because it incorporates gymnastics with dancing
try clubs theres probably a bunch i know the school im choosing has a volleyball and dance club (volleyball club helps for trying out for the real team)
the no cutting sports you could join
if you want to try something new
(i want to join field hockey even though ive never done it before)
and for your last question
i tried to make it similar for how you meet new people
youll will have class periods before lunch so try talking to new people
and im sure they wont abandon you if there new to this too
well hopefully i helped
i have those moments too but your not the only one whos thinking about it (:
Q: Please rate my essay if you have time thank you?
One by one, kid by kid, religion is creeping up on us. The effects of religions like Christianity, Catholicism, and the other 36,000+ Christian denominations are bringing us down as a society. Whether it’s indoctrinations, crusades, inquisitions, or just the outdated moral values, religions have introduce to the world is devastating.
Religion prevents scientific achievement and puts a halt to scientific studies. Therefore, The effects of religion is that which prevents scientific achievement and puts a halt to scientific studies. They hold back stem cell research which could be vital in the fight against diseases like cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, spinal cord injuries and muscle damage. Many faiths and churches, including Judaism, the United Church of Christ, The Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America all oppose the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005, which provides federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. These Churches believe Stem Cell Research is consider murder, which goes against the 6th commandment written by god.
Catholicism also prevents abortion and the use of contraceptives, which has resulted in millions becoming infected with HIV/AIDS, as well as unwanted pregnancies. Such unwanted pregnancies create pressure on impoverished societies. Pope Benedict XVI, quoted, “Scripture does not explicitly mention abortion, but as the official interpreter of the Scriptures, he said that the commandment "You shall not kill" applies to abortion as well. There are also other references which state that an unborn baby is a human person, such as Psalm 51:5, Psalm 139:13-16 and Jeremiah 1:5. Such major decisions should not be decided from faith. Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, the highest-ranking Roman Catholic prelate in Colorado said, “The church says abortion is a foundational issue”, on Oct 9, 2004. The efforts of Archbishop Chaput and his allies rounded up more then 50,000 people for upcoming elections, Archbishop Chaput said “voting against abortion is to commit a sin”. Where as you see based on faith alone, religion has once again made it’s impact on critical decisions.
Rational Thinking is skewed and damaged by superstitious notions which cannot be backed up by evidence. For centuries, even before people learned to read and write, religion has continuously rejected the findings of objective Science. In 1632, when Galileo published his book, Dialogues on the Two Chief World Systems, he was summoned by Pope Urban VIII a year later to appear before the Inquisition in Rome. Just for asserting the his ideas that the Earth was not the center of the universe or that the earth is not flat, Galileo was sentenced to life imprisonment in a Roman dungeon for most of his life. Such ignorance stops education and could revert us back in the Dark Ages.
Also, there is a connection that parents who are theists have children with lower IQ’s. These children will be less interested in science. Religious people, who will live in that adulthood, will become less intelligent compared the to people around them. Research has already proven this theory. Paul Bell in "Mensa Magazine", 2002, reviewed all studies taken of religion and IQ. He concluded:"Of 43 studies carried out since 1927 on the relationship between religious belief and one's intelligence and/or educational level, all but four found an inverse connection. That is, the higher one's intelligence or education level, the less one is likely to be religious or hold "beliefs" of any kind."
Since the beginning of time, religion has been to control the masses, but it’s the 21st Century now, and we shouldn’t let religion blind us anymore. The time to put a end to religion has come. These are only the few examples religion have provided for society that has been left in ruins. Being an indoctrinated theist since I was born has put a toll on my life, but now that I further the study on my religion and world religion, I can proudly call myself an atheist and fight what I believe in, and I hope you can too.
Im a senior at a catholic high school thank you
A: Hi Andy
I am not an expert by any means on critiquing a paper...
Having said that I will do my best...
I liked it...very gutsy, passionate. a topic that always
creates lots of controversy...
The first paragraph had me wondering why you didn't
mention the Muslim faith...yes you mentioned the
36,000 + others...are you allowed only so many
words...just curious...
The 5th paragraph I had to re-read several times, you
may want to go over that and fine tune it...
Do you need to mention separately where you got
your info from? The books, magazines, those that
wrote the articles, the date they were written???
It is important that quotes, material from other
sources be documented...
Check your spelling...
Maybe some balance put into your essay...by that
I mean science/research is necessary but there is
a hardness, a lack of emotion, and sometimes
a detachment to real life when it is only scientific...
You bet Religions are all powerful and do control
the masses but so does science, politics, money
and greed...
Don't ever be afraid of a challenge, question those in
authority...write controversial articles...
Write with passion, knowledge and most importantly
and open mind...
Good luck
Q: Are there any girls out there that are mid-twenties that are saving themselves for marriage?
I'm 27 and still ya know. And EVERY single one of my friends have had multiple partners. They know of course and they don't put me down for it or make fun of me or they wouldn't be my friends. But, seriously, even my mom tells me all the time that I need a girlfriend to "complete" me and she's hinting at getting sexually intimate. I think that's probably because both my parents did it when they were a lot younger. I guess going to a college prep Roman Catholic high school rubbed off some of this kind of stuff on me, but mainly it's cuz it's just a promise I made to myself and the situation has never really arisen. Sometimes I feel like I'm not as mature as all my friends that have already had sex because of just that one thing. It's my belief that once you've done it, you kind of just elevate to some higher maturity level. I have no idea. Crazy ideas in my head being like this by choice for so long.
A: There shouldn't be any pressure on this issue. Just do it when you are ready, when you feel ready. Then there will be no regret. I was forced to find a bf and got married and had children when i reached 21 because of my culture that people start family early. I almost made a mistake for marrying someone who actually was a player. I am 25 not and happily dating my bf for 9 months. He knows i'm a virgin and repects me a lot. it applies on guys too.
Q: any girls out there that are mid-twenties that are saving themselves for that special guy?
I'm 27 and still ya know. And EVERY single one of my friends have had multiple partners. They know about me of course and they don't put me down for it or make fun of me or they wouldn't be my friends. But, seriously, even my mom tells me all the time that I need a girlfriend to "complete" me and she's hinting at getting sexually intimate. It's my belief that once you've done it, you kind of just elevate to some higher maturity level. I have no idea. Crazy ideas I guess. Should I start doing internet dating? Seriously, where am I gonna find a girl w/ the same feelings I have about this?
A: A girl like that is going to be hard to find, but when you do find her, you'll both be satisfied that you waited. I can tell you first hand that sex does not give you a passport into the world of maturity, and honestly, you seem to be a lot more mature for not focusing on "boobies" and "getting some"like 95% of the guys out there, which I find pretty childish. I sometimes wish that I'd held off until marriage. I've been thinking about becoming abstinent but my boyfriend just laughs it off and pushes for it even more and when I think about it, I figure it's kind of stupid to do since we have 3 kids together lol. You're lucky to have such great friends though. I know a guy who waited until he was 28. He was going to wait until marriage, but every one kept busting his b***s about it, including the girl he gave it up to, so he caved. Good luck finding someone. (you could try http://www.christiancafe.com, or join something like plentyoffish.com and just put in your profile that you aren't willing to compromise your beliefs and are looking for the same in a partner.)

Q: Was Greece part of the Roman Empire and did the greeks worship Caesar as Zeus?
Drop high school history. All the Roman Empire worshipped Caesar as varies mythical gods. All Christianity today is part of the roman Catholic Empire and worship Caesar as the mythical Jesus.
A: You don't say which Caesar you mean.
In the Apocolycyntosis it is clear that Augustus is a new god (and therefore not identified with any other member of the pantheon) since he argues against a motion already proposed by the existing council.
Julius never received full divine honours. For most practical purposes he was little more than a genius loci.
Livia's worship could hardly have included devotion to male gods (Livia was not even allowed into the senate while she lived).
You seem even more ignorant than most of the Christians around here.
Which is some going.
Q: equal pay settlement, lancashire county council...?
because we work in a voluntary aided roman catholic high school, it seems that they can opt out of the equal pay settlement, lancashire county council asked my school 2 opt in the scheme, and they said no, if we worked in a state school we would now have a settlement package, like everyone else, do we have a case?
A: It's not clear from your question what the 'scheme' actually is; but it is not possible to opt out of an employer's obligations under the Equal Pay Act.
It is perfectly possible for a state school and a voluntarily aided shchool to have different pay structures, but that does not affect the obligation (within the school) to comply with the EPA.
Hope this helps

A: first get into hight school. only your 10 and 11th grades count (12 too but not as much) also you need a PERFECT SAT so i wish you luck when that comes around. And you'll be lucky to get into any of them. Don't count the chickens before they hatch!(or w.e. the saying is)
